Emery and Kinley - 20 months

I missed the girls 18 month update, so I'm going to try to jump back in with what they are up to at 20 months old. This age is a lot of fun! It does still make me sad when I see pictures of them at this time last year. My little babies are long gone, but I really do love this age. It definitely has some challenges that we are working through, but overall we have so much fun together!

The sweetest sissies!

You both...
~ love to read books. You have a different voice when you read. It's the cutest thing! I can always tell that you have a book just by hearing those sweet, high pitched reading voices.
~ love bath time. When I turn the water on to rinse you, you both jockey for the position of being under the faucet.
~ love to wave to the neighbors. As soon as we walk out the front door you start waving to the couple across the street...whether they are outside or not!
~ cry when we drop you off in nursery at church. Just for a minute and then you're fine. Although, this past week you didn't, so maybe we've turned a corner?!
~ are really good eaters. You have your moments of decreased appetite, but lately you both have been putting some food away!
~ love to go to story time at the libary. We even checked out a few books the last time we were there.
~ have started to ask for "giger" aka Daniel Tiger when you wake up in the morning or from nap. We will come back to my bed and snuggle while we watch a little tv. I love this time of both my babies laying on me like you used to. =)
~ love to run and climb. Little monkeys!
~ can open and shut the doors in our house that have the lever door handles.
~ are very attached to your loveys and pappies. Although you're only allowed to have your pappies when you're in bed or in the car, I'm not looking forward to the day we say goodbye to them.
~ have your own language, I think. You two somehow communicate and conspire to do all kinds of things. It cracks me up!
~ wear size 4 diapers, size 5 shoes, 12, 18 and 24 month clothing - depending on what it is.
~ take one long afternoon nap and sleep 12 hours at night.

Kinley you...
~ weigh around 21 lbs and are 32" tall.
~ have 12 teeth.
~ "talk" a good bit and have around 15 recognizable words. I can tell you're working hard on learning new words and it makes me so proud!
~ climbed out of your crib about a month ago. It scared me (and you) and thankfully you haven't tried it again since.
~ can be pretty serious when you're in new places or around new people. You like to sit back, observe and take everything in.
~ have the greatest belly laugh!
~ have been going through some separation anxiety lately. You don't like mama or dada to be out of sight.
~ have the greatest belly laugh!
~ can melt my heart into a puddle when you look up at me and say "hi!"
~ give the sweetest hugs and kisses.
~ have the most precious little blonde curls when your hair dries after a bath. It straightens out after you sleep on it, but if it's damp or humid then the curls come back. I love it!!

Emery you...
~ weigh around 22 lbs and are 32.5" tall.
~ have 12 teeth.
~ have more words than I can count. You are a little parrot these days, repeating everything we say. Some of my favorites are "sess you" (bless you), "shish" (fish), "lo lu" (love you), "bubby" (lovey), sissy or KiKi, "maaaaam" (yes ma'am).
~ are getting good at recognizing colors. Green, yellow and blue are your favorites.
~ like to find two of something and give one to your sissy. But, if sissy has a toy you want you don't think twice about just snatching it from her. We are working on taking turns =)
~ will pat Kinley on the back and say "okay, okay" when she's upset about something. Such a good big sister you are!
~ have had three little hair trims already. We had to get rid of the mullet! Your hair is really thickening up and coming in quickly. I just love it!
~give the sweetest hugs and kisses!
~love to pull up people's shirts and blow on their bellies. You mostly do this to us but have been known to do it to a complete stranger before!
~are really big on having your boo-boo's kissed. And, you like kissing other people's boo-boo's too.
~are still sassy and sweet. I just love seeing your personality develop more and more.

You both bring us SO much joy! You are the light of our lives and we love you more than you'll ever know!

520 hours and 13 minutes

520 hours and 13 minutes. That's the amount of time that we have spent breastfeeding for the last 18 months. (Yes, I'm anal and still tracked all of their feedings even though I didn't need to.)

The years that we were trying to get pregnant, one thing that I always prayed I could experience was breastfeeding. But, I didn't know if that would ever be possible.

Then God answered the cry of my heart and I was pregnant! And, not just with one miracle but TWO! Breastfeeding two...would that ever be possible?

My two teeny nuggets were born 5 weeks early and with low birth weight. We faced some challenges in the beginning, but with the help of our awesome lactation consultants and my rock star babies, we were doing it. We were breastfeeding! And my girls were eating and gaining and thriving, despite our early challenges.

We made it through mastitis, twice. We made it through thrush. We made it through feeding every. three. hours...nursing, pumping, bottle feeding what was pumped after nursing, for the first five weeks...we made it.

We made it all the way to 18 months! I couldn't be prouder of my girls! My heart is full of thankfulness for the many, many hours that we spent together, all three of us bonding. I have so many wonderful memories that I will cherish forever. I remember the way Emery would play with her hair, or Kinley's hair. The way they would both play with my hair. Falling asleep on the giant nursing pillow after a feeding and we'd all just lay there. Lugging the giant nursing pillow with us whenever we went somewhere so I could feed in the back of the van. Kinley going through a phase where she'd just roll off the pillow when she was done feeding. Kinley playing with and cuddling her lovey while feeding. And, so many more.
Our last morning nursing together I just cried and cried. It's bittersweet. I knew it was time, but my heart hurt that our time was over.
I feel very blessed! I will always cherish this time and I'm thankful for the beautiful journey that we had together. Again, a dream come true...times two!

Watch K & E Grow - 12 months!

I thought it would be fun to do a collage of the girls monthly pics to see just how much they've changed this year.

Why do they have to grow so quickly?!?

Emery and Kinley - 12 months

As hard as I tried to stop time, it didn't work. You girls turned ONE year old on November 3rd! We made it a year! Ha! In all seriousness, this has been the most amazing year of my life. I never knew love like this before.

You make life so fun and it's hard to imagine what our lives were like before you. Even though it was bittersweet to sit and rock my sweet girls one last time as "babies", you'll always be my babies.
Although y'all are still our little peanuts you are both getting so big! You're wearing 6-12,  9-12 and 12 month clothes, size 3 diapers and infant size 2-3 in shoes. I just cut the tags off of some 12 month jammies that we bought before you were born. At the time it seemed like you'd never be big enough to wear them, yet here we are!
You're still amazing sleepers. Daylight savings was on your birthday. I was a little anxious about it and wondered if it would mess up my good sleepers. We prepped the week beforehand trying to keep you up a little later each night. Overall you did really well! Emery woke up first (as usual) about 30-45 minutes earlier than normal, but after about four days y'all were back on your typical schedule. You still seem to need two naps a day so we're going to keep with that a while longer.
We just dropped a feeding and are now down to nursing three times a day. It may not be long before we're down to two though because sometimes y'all don't seem interested in the lunchtime feeding. I'm not in a hurry, but I know our nursing days are numbered now and it makes me sad to think about this part of our journey coming to an end. In the beginning, it was hard. I had no idea if this would work for us or how long we'd make it. After two bouts of mastitis, thrush, numerous blocked ducts, blisters, etc. I can't believe we've made it a year and counting. I'm so thankful for the many (many) hours that we've had together while feeding throughout this year. These moments are something I will always cherish!

No new teeth this month. Emery is still at four and Kinley has none. Y'all are good eaters and will try anything we give you. Kinley, you aren't always crazy about green vegetables but I hope you'll learn to love them. You love you some meat though! Emery, you like vegetables, fruit, meat and pasta. You both love cheese. I fixed some scrambled dogs (old family chili recipe) last week and you could not get enough of it! I mean y'all LOVED it and I could not get it on your tray fast enough! You are Georgia girls at heart ;-)
Y'all are busy little bees, exploring and into everything these days. We've been pulling out new toys lately and you're having fun with them. You especially love the fisher price house with the door. The music table is still a hit too. You love to "love" each other, your babies, loveys, or any stuffed animal you see. Sometimes you'll just be crawling along and I'll hear "aaahhh" and I know you've found something to love on. It's precious and melts my heart. Of course, the 'ole tupperware cabinet is a favorite too. =) You both say "mama", "dada" and Emery is starting to say "baba" for baby.
We are borrowing this little ride on toy from your cousins and you two are having fun with it! Emery was riding on it and I said  Kinley "can you push her" and you went right over and pushed on the back of it. I don't know how you knew what that meant?! (every picture is a blur because y'all are constantly in motion!)
Y'all LOVE your wagon and we enjoy going for little walks as a family when daddy gets home. We'll bundle up and get outside for just a few minutes. I love these times together.

We were able to do something this month that I had dreamed of for years...we went to the pumpkin patch! We actually went to a few. We went with our playgroup and then went to another one when daddy could go. This was just another reminder of how good and faithful God is. He has given me the desires of my heart!
We visited the dr. for your 12 month checkup. It was so crazy to think back to our first time in that waiting room, the day after we brought you home from the hospital, when I was such a wreck. Dr. S was proud of how you're growing and said you both are doing just perfectly! Each time we come back his exams get a little more challenging as you two know what's coming. Emery, you were not a happy camper this visit and made sure Dr. S knew it. Little stinker!
Here are your stats:
Kinley:
Weight: 16lbs 6oz
Height: 27.5 inches (I'm not sure this is 100% accurate, but oh well)

Dear Kinley,
What a sweet, sweet baby you are. Your daddy and I say that to each other at least ten times a day. Your sweet little gummy grin melts me every time and I can't get enough of it. You have the sweetest laugh that I could listen to all day long. You love to play games...peek-a-boo, hide and seek and playing chase will get you giggling. You are a curious little thing and love to explore around the house. You've been fascinated lately with the bathroom and opening and closing the shower door. Mommy doesn't really like for you to do this so I try to keep you out. You like to read and flip the pages of your books. You love the new playhouse and could crawl through that doorway fifty times and still think it's funny. You are a daddy's girl and I love to see you interact with him. As soon as you hear his key in the door each evening you get so excited and hurry to see him. You still make us laugh with your "chewbacca" noise and you also hold both your little hands in fists, squeeze them and grunt "mmmmmm", like you're so excited you just can't stand it. It's adorable! I can't get over how much your hair is coming in, and it's still light. We're close to being able to put just a bow in your hair without a headband, but we just need a little more length for it to stay put. Your gorgeous blue eyes and long eyelashes slay me. You're such a beautiful baby and I can't believe you're my big ONE year old! You have forever changed me and I'm beyond thankful that you made me a momma one year ago. I love you to the moon and back, and back again!

Emery:
Weight: 16lbs 12oz
Height: 28.25 inches (I'm not sure this is 100% accurate, but oh well)
Dear Emery,
My sweet little love bug, I'm so proud of how you've grown and changed this month. You still have a hard time being away from mommy and daddy, but each week in nursery seems to be a little easier for you. Usually you are fine once I'm out of sight, but if you can see me and someone else is holding you, you don't like it one bit. You are a loving little thing. You'll be playing with your toys and then come crawling over to me, pull up and give me "love". In those moments I have to fight back tears because I just never dreamed life would be this sweet. You like to lay your head on my shoulder when I'm holding you and I'll scratch your back. What girl doesn't like that?! Kinley started playing peek-a-boo and then you weren't too far behind her. We say "where's Emery?" and your hands go over your eyes. You think it's so fun! You've taken to your baby doll and really love her. You shocked us all when, on your birthday, we picked you up from church nursery and you had a paci in your mouth, just going to town on it. The workers had found a paci that belonged to your cousin in our diaper bag and gave it to you, and you took it! You cried when we tried to take it away. So, at one year old you decided that you do like a paci after all. It's kind of weird to lay you down with a paci and a lovey now after months of you not taking them. Silly girl! I look back at your newborn pictures and think you look the same, yet you've changed so much. You're just beautiful, Emery Grace, and I can't get enough of you! You have forever changed me and I'm beyond thankful that you made me a momma one year ago. I love you to the moon and back, and back again!

Emery and Kinley - 11 months

11 months old. I know I've said this every month, but how?!?! It blows my mind how quickly y'all are growing. I really wish there was a way to freeze time. Sigh.

You're both getting SO big and just more fun by the day! You're in size 3 diapers and wearing 9 month and some 12 month clothes. You have teeny little feet and wear an infant size 2 shoe. You're my petite little princesses!
I love coming in your room after you've woken up in the mornings or from a nap. Emery, you are always standing up at the edge of your crib closest to Kinley's. Kinley, you're typically always awake but I wouldn't know it if it weren't for Emery letting me know y'all were ready to get up! Your bed head lately just cracks me up! You take two naps a day, one morning and one afternoon. You go to bed around 8:00-8:30 and are up between 8:30-9:00am. So thankful for how well you both sleep!
We recently dropped a feeding so now you're nursing 4 times a day and eating three full meals at the table with us. You both eat really well and will always try what we give you. Kinley, you are a big meat eater (like mommy) and Emery you seem to like most meats, chicken being your favorite. Things both of you will never turn down are pasta, bananas, grapes and yogurt melts. Emery, you now have four teeth since both of your top teeth came in! I can't get over how much older you look with your sweet little toofers ;-) And Kinley, my little gummy girl, you still don't have any teeth. Maybe they're on their way?!

I love to see how you're learning and growing with each new day. You both like to wave and it is the sweetest sight! You're both giving kisses now and we can't get enough. I keep trying to get a video of you kissing each other but so far I haven't been able to catch it. MiMi did get this adorable picture though. Open mouth baby kisses are the best!!
You really like to play with each other and it just melts my heart to see you two together. You both "talk" all the time. I love to hear the new sounds you make. Of course, "mama" is my favorite!! We are still working really hard on "dada". You've both said it a couple of times but I know daddy wants to hear it more! I'm so thankful that you have one another to grow up with. The drama is begining though and the tears flow quickly if someone takes the others toy, or you're told "no", etc. Oh bless it!
You both love music and when we sing and dance with you. I can't wait until y'all start to do it too! You both LOVE my phone and the i.pad. I recently had to put a lock on it because Emery would manage to get into all kinds of things. Somehow you opened the phone up and started playing i.tunes. All of a sudden I heard David Cr0wder band playing and had no clue how you did that! You like to play outside. We've had several play dates at the park with friends and you've both had so much fun! You love to go for wagon rides as well. We had so much fun on our trip to the apple orchard and we have more Fall fun to come!
You draw quite the crowds when we take you out places. You're just so cute, I can see why! You've gotten to ride in a few double buggys and you think they're so fun. Well, at least one of you does ;-)

(I didn't even notice what was in the background until after we took the picture!)
We had an unexpected trip to the dr. for Emery recently (for what was just a bug bite, but it freaked these first time parents out) so we were able to get your weights. We did our best to get your heights at home.

Here are your stats:
Kinley:
Weight: approximately 15lbs 9oz
 Height: approximately 26.75 inches

Dear Kinley,
My darling little Kiki, I just love you to pieces! You constantly make me laugh and are just so funny. You're almost always on a mission, speeding around looking for something to get into. You sometimes make this panting sound and it cracks me up! You do not like it when sissy steals your toys (we will start working on sharing) and you let me know about it. When I lay you down for a nap and then hear you crying I know something has happened...several times I've gone in there and your lovey is in Emery's crib. One time she got both your lovey and paci! I give them back to you and then you're a happy girl. You'll now cuddle and kiss your lovey or your stuffed animals when we say "give lovey a kiss". It is so adorable!! Daddy had to pop your hand recently because you would not stop messing with the carbon monoxide alarm. It was so sad for us, but we know that we have to teach you boundaries and keep you safe. I know there will be many more hard lessons to come =( I adore your precious, gummy grin and I will be sad when you finally get teeth and it goes away. I could just kiss your little cheeks off! Your hair is really coming in and it makes you look different. You're looking less and less like a baby. =( You're so beautiful, Kinley, and your daddy and I could not be more in love with you!

Emery:
Weight: approximately 16lbs 2oz
 Height: approximately 26.75 inches

Dear Emery,
My little momma's girl, oh how I love you! You have a hard time sometimes in situations/with people you aren't familiar with and you just want your mommy (or daddy). I'm so proud of you though because you've stayed in nursery for the whole church service the past two times you've gone! You've cut two new teeth this month which I know has not been easy on you. I love to see you playing and exploring more on your own at home. You're really good at crawling now and will just motor all over the place. You love to pull up on things as well. You must have some eagle eyes though - you can spot the tiniest string, hair, etc on the floor and it immediately ends up in your mouth. You keep me on my toes with making sure the floors are completely picked up! You have the cutest laugh and I just love to hear it. And, when you smile and flash those pearly whites I just melt! You give some sweet sugar and I'm sure you probably get sick of all the kisses we give you, but you just can't say anything about it yet ;-) You have amazing eyelashes and those same expressive eyes you've had since you were born. Your hair is really thickening in the back. My baby is growing up =( You are just gorgeous, my Emery girl, and I love you more than words could ever say!

Emery and Kinley - 10 months

Double digits already?!?! Somebody hold me. I've already started planning your one year birthday party which blows. my. mind. I don't know how it is possible, but you both get cuter by the day. Just thinking about you makes me smile. Your daddy and I go to bed at night thinking about you and wake up excited to see your sweet faces again. You're just the best things EVER!

You're in size 3 diapers now and you're wearing mainly size 6-9 and 9 month clothes. We bought you some things for fall and got size 9 month, so hopefully they will still work in a couple of months! You're teeny little things but growing bigger by the day.

Your new tricks are to stand up in your cribs. If you wake up from nap time before I come in your room I'll hear you both jabbering away and then find you like this. Emery, you've started to gnaw on your crib some. We've got to stop that! You still go to bed around 8:00-8:30 and usually wake up between 8:30-9:00am. You take two naps a day, one morning and one afternoon.
You're nursing 5 times a day and eating three full meals. Emery, you went through a couple of weeks where you didn't have the best appetite for table food and would only eat a few bites. Now your appetite seems to be back. Kinley, we laugh because we don't know where you put all the food that you eat! You can put away some food! I love that you're at the point where you'll eat what we eat. Spaghetti, beef, chicken, turkey sausage, pasta, grapes, bananas, corn on the cob, cheerios, yogurt, pancakes, puffs and yogurt melts are still big hits with you both. Emery, you just have your two bottom teeth and Kinley, you still don't have any!
I love seeing how each of your personalities continue to develop. You're both very different. Kinley, you're fearless and into everything. Emery, you're content to just be hanging out with/climbing all over your momma. You're both so much fun! You love crawling around, singing "if you're happy and you know it", playing peek-a-boo, knocking the tower of blocks down, being tickled and reading books. You both like holding/looking at the iphone or ipad. One day, Emery managed to send an email from our baby connect app to her daddy with a report of her day. Ha!
You like to go for walks around the neighborhood. We are looking forward to it cooling down some so we can get outside more. (I just love your expressions here and how you were excited to be touching feet!)
You attended your first wedding this month. We drove down to Greenville for my cousins wedding. You both did very well and I loved getting to show you off to all of my family!
You also went on your first beach vacation this month! I'll have to write more about that soon. You both amazed me with how well you did. We had SO much fun and loved seeing everything through your eyes. It was a real dream come true for your mommy. =)
We're also excited that college football has started back. You're the cutest little dawg fans I ever did see. =)

No dr appointment this month, so we did our best to get your approximate weight and height.
Here are your stats:
Kinley:
Weight: approximately 15lbs 2oz
 Height: approximately 26.5 inches
Dear Kinley,
My sweet little peanut, you are so much fun! I honestly don't know how one baby can be so sweet. You're still laid back and pretty even tempered. You are a busy body at home though...into everything. You love to crawl around (fast) and explore. Right now you love to go over to the bookshelf in your nursery, stand up and pull books off the shelf. You've had quite a few tumbles, bumps and bruises this month. Such is life with a mobile baby. You're tough though! You have the best smile and laugh, they're both contagious! You've started to give kisses lately and it is the BEST! I live for those big, sloppy, open mouthed kisses. I would say you're pretty much a daddy's girl though. You light up when you see him or hear him. It melts my heart and I know he loves it too =) Your hair is still growing like crazy and it's lighter than Emery's. It cracks me up because it's long enough to get messed up when you lay on it now. I love your sweet bed head! Your eyes are still blue. You still love your paci and lovey at bed time, and you love to rub your lovey when you're nursing at night. Sweet girl, you are joy and I could not love you more if I tried. I'm so thankful for your precious life!

Dear Emery,
My precious Emery girl, oh what a mess you are! When you look at me and flash that beautiful smile and your eyes light up, my heart just bursts! You make me laugh all day long. You're getting more adventurous by the day and you sure do think you're big stuff when you try something new. You love crawling over and standing up on things now. You follow along behind sissy and try to do what she's doing. It's the cutest thing. You are definitely a momma's girl! You say "mamama" all the time, but I'm still not 100% sure if you've associated it with me yet?! I still love to hear it regardless =) You're jabbering a lot these days. We work on "dadada" every day, but so far neither you or your sister will say it. I know he can't wait to hear it though! You've recently started to wave and it is the cutest thing! When I look back at you in the car and see your sweet little hand waving at me and your smiling face it makes me want to cry! I never knew I could love someone so much. Your pretty brown hair is growing more, and like sissy, you have the cutest bed head when you wake up. You still have beautiful blue eyes as well. I'm think I'm going to have two blue eyed baby girls?! I still just cannot believe that I am so blessed to be your mom. I love you more than you'll ever know!
