All things creative...
What program do you use/prefer to design in?
I work in Photoshop Elements 7.0 and I really like it. It does everything that I, as a beginner, need for it to do. There are lots of tutorials out there for Elements and all the neat things that you can do with it. I think it was a fabulous investment =)
Do you design your own papers/elements you use (like on your blog header, Christmas card, etc.) or do you purchase them somewhere? If so, what are your favorite places to buy from? If you design them yourself, do you take custom orders?
I definitely do not have the skills to design my own papers/elements! I leave that to the professionals and just have fun playing around with what they've created! The papers in my blog design came from Designer Digitals and they are pattern overlays that you can make any color you want. I also love Michelle Underwood's designs.
Do you have any plans to sell stockings like the ones you made? I SO want those!!
Several people have asked me this, and I have given it some thought. I enjoyed making ours and wouldn't be opposed to making some to sell, I just have to find the time! I wanted to duplicate the one's I fell in love with from Ballard's but didn't want to pay that much for them. But, to be honest, if I made them to sell they wouldn't be a whole lot cheaper, so I'm not sure if people would still want them or not ;-)
How did you get into monogramming/blog designing/all that creative stuff!!!
I got into monogramming when I started a purse business about 6 years ago. I began making bags for myself/family members and then it grew from there and I started getting outside orders. I LOVE all things monogrammed so I wanted to be able to offer that to my customers (and myself!). My parents were very gracious and blessed me with an embroidery machine and A Design of Faith was born!
Blog designing started somewhat the same way. As soon as I started blogging I knew that the boring old blogger template just wasn't going to do. =) I started playing around with my design, which led to me doing designs for friends, then friends of friends, and another dimension of A Design of Faith was birthed!
love all your CREATIVE blog designs and monogrammed goodies on your website. I've REALLY been wanting an embroidery machine... what kind do you have? Do you love it??
I started out monogramming on a small Singer embroidery machine, but now I have a Babylock BMP-8 six needle machine and I absolutely LOVE it! I cannot say enough good things about Babylock and their machines. I was so fortunate to have worked for a Babylock dealer for three years where I learned so much about their products. I then had the opportunity to purchase my machine AT COST before our store closed. It doesn't get any better than that!! You can read a little more about how God worked all of that out and my monogram business was started here.
What craft or skill do you wish you could have or wish you would have tried?
I've always wished that I could draw and paint. I am so not artistic in that way! I see cute little artsy things painted and wish that I could do something like it, but I'm really not good at it!
I also tried knitting for a while but never really mastered it, so I wish I knew how to do more than make a scarf!
How easy is sewing and monogramming? I would love to start soon. :)
I really don't think that sewing is as hard as people think it is. I took home ec in high school where I learned a little about sewing, but I pretty much taught myself from there. It is a lot of trial and error, making mistakes and ripping out stitches, but that's just the way I learn. I see something and figure out a way to make it myself. I don't really use patterns much, just kind of make up my own as I go along.
Monogramming is really easy too. Actually, the machine does everything! All I have to do is layout and center the fabric, then hoop it, put it in the machine and push a button...the machine does the rest!
Next up...all things love!
