I should have been blogging bit by bit over the weekend, but I obviously didn't get to it! This is going to be a long recap of our Memorial Day weekend.
Saturday we got up and ran a few errands before we had to be back to keep the Hayes-inator! He was coming to stay with us while his mommy and daddy had a meeting for their Brazil mission trip (side note: please be in prayer for them in the coming days as they go to share the gospel with the precious people of Brazil-pray that many souls will be saved) We had several things planned to do with the little man....Guitar Hero, playing baseball, going fishing, eating at Wendys....we kept that little mug busy!

Here we are on our way down to the lake. Right about this point I was thinking "I can't believe I let them talk me into coming down here too!"
Chad was just a little bit bummed...
Sunday was a wonderful day at church. One of our North Campus pastors preached a really good sermon from Isaiah 40. I absolutely love these verses!
"28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. 29 He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. 30 Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; 31 but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."
It was a very encouraging message to not rely on my own strength and power to make it through, but to rely on the Almighty, All-Powerful God whose strength will never fade. His power knows no limits! Steve taught a wonderful Sunday School lesson on Hosea and it was such a precious reminder of God's unfailing, unconditional love for us. It reminded me of the book "Redeeming Love", so I decided to get it back out and start reading it again. If you have not read it yet, you MUST!
Sunday evening we decided to head out to the driving range with the Bridges. It had been at least a year since I had swung a club, so I definitely needed the practice.
Becca and Hayes with their daddy
My handsome golfer
Me concentrating so hard, just hoping that I won't have a big swing and a miss! (trust me, there was plenty of that happening no matter how hard I tried!)
Monday we decided to hang out by the pool for a while (I can't wait for you to see my new favorite beach towel!!) and I, for some unknowncrazystupididiotic reason decided not to wear any sunscreen. (mom, I know what you're going to say) Let me just say that was a BIG mistake! Huge! What was I thinking???? I go SO burnt and I am hating life right about now. I look so awful...bright red and splotchy all over the front of my body because apparently, I also forgot the concept of rolling over...very lovely indeed!
That night we headed over to Daniel and Jen's for a cookout. I made this for dessert, and I must say, it was pretty tasty! It was so great to get to hang out with them before they leave on their trip. We sat around and ate, talked, and watched Jon and Kate plus 8! We don't have cable so Jen was letting us watch stuff we never get to watch! Actually, Chad just informed me that we do have cable, just not the cool channels. I was curled up on the couch with a blanket because I had the chills from my sunburn, but it was such a fun night just to lay back and relax with friends.
I hope that you all had a wonderful weekend as well! Don't you just love short work weeks?
Sounds like a fun weekend, Faith.
ReplyDeleteI also got sunburned at the beach. I applied sunscreen everywhere but my legs and feet. Why, I don't know, but I'm miserable! And, it's UGLY!
So glad you had a fun weekend!! And I just love that verse you shared--not to mention 'Redeeming Love' (an all-time fave!) You are so my kinda girl. :)
ReplyDeleteHope the sunburn feels better soon. This fair-skinned gal SO knows your pain.
I've never heard it called salt & pepper catfish. Funny! Here in Arkansas it is a summer staple food (like BBQ). I also got a horrible sunburn while we were at Disney. I put sunscreen all over but missed my right shoulder. I literally had little water blisters. It was disgusting and very painful. I already have nice new freckles as a souvenir!
ReplyDeleteLoved the book Redeeming Love. Francine Rivers is one of my favorites!
Have a great week!
Amy

I've never been to a driving range. I'm a little afraid of how pathetic I'd be :)
